    This is without doubt a very accurate account of the fascinating life and work of Sir John Lavery. It is well laid out and informative, the quality of the reproductions are very good on the whole,however, it must be said that the images of his work are on the small side, even when they . Sir John Lavery () was an Irish painter best known for his portraits and closely associated with the group of young artists known as The Glasgow Boys who revolutionised Scottish painting in the s and 90s. This illustrated catalogue accompanied an exhibition of the paintings of Sir John Lavery.

    Lavery's work was favored in Paris, Rome and Berlin rather than in London. He exhibited at all the major European salons and secessions and in the early 20th century two of his paintings, Father and Daughter () and Spring (), were acquired for the Louvre.
