Of the 20 walks listed (4 5/5(10).   In this extract from her new book, Islandeering, Lisa Drewe braves the tides to walk around the cliffs, beaches and historic coastal trails of her favourite small islesAuthor: Lisa Drewe.

The second-largest island in the Channel Islands, Guernsey has gone to great lengths to change its sleepy backwater image, and it's working. Flatter and less dramatic-looking than Jersey, Guernsey has some stunning beaches, particularly along the north coast, rugged cliffs in the south, and a lively, compact capital of St Peter Port. For the islanders, the sea represents freedom and, in some cases, the end of the war. Amelia writes about resuming her evening walks along the cliffs and notes that if she looks out at the sea, she can pretend that the German-built bunkers behind her aren't there, and even that the war was just a dream. The sea also situates Guernsey as a place free from British rule, as it's technically owned.
